Just be informed that this is an European style warrant, that owner can't exercise until expiry, thus market-maker can take the own sweet time to hold back the price different.

Don't expect the warrant price to exceed or moves along the same way as the mother shares.

Brain Games dOn’t make you smarter

LONDON

In a six-week study, experts found people who played online games designed to improve their cognitive skills did not get any smarter.

Researchers recruited more than 8,600 people aged 18 to 60 and asked them to play online brain games for at least 10 minutes a day, three times a week.

They were compared to more than 2,700 people who did not play any brain games, but who spent a similar amount of time surfing the Internet. All participants were given a sort of IQ test before and after the experiment.

Researchers said the people who did brain training did not do any better on the test after six weeks than people who had simply been on the Internet. The study was done by the journal — People playing computer games to train their brains might as well be playing Super Mario, new research suggests.Nature. AP

What is RIGHT has two sides ? ? ? ?

Is it  RIGHT to the Government or the PEOPLE ????

Is it RIGHT to  the EMployers or the EMployees ? ? ? ?

Is it RIGHT to the RICH  or  the  pOOr ? ? ? ?

B

As Members of Parliament, we’re elected to voice the interests of those who vote for us. But what if an MP does not act in accordance with the wishes of those he represents?  ( Else, WHAT is  REPRESENTATION  ? ? ? ? )

Has he kept faith with them or has he betrayed their trust? A recent encounter left me thinking about this issue.

The Housing and Development Board announced, through a sign on a hoarding, plans for the construction of a 14-storey block of rental flats in my ward.

The announcement surprised many.

Quite naturally, residents living next to the proposed block were upset. It would seem the value of their property would be adversely affected.  ( Is this a PLAY OUT ? ? ? ? )

The HDB tried but failed to persuade them this would not be the case.

However, what also upset the residents was the fact that I, as their MP, did not consult them   ( MISTRUST ? ? ? ? )  ahead of the decision to build the rental block.

In the dialogue on the matter, there were howls of protest and disappointment when I revealed that I’d been aware of the plans but could not tell them in advance because of the price sensitive nature ( Note:  Breach of TRUST to the PEOPLE ? ? ? ? Is this also the FINANCIAL DAMAGE to the PEOPLE  using their MANDATE ? ? ? ?   )  of the information. I left the meeting reflecting on my reply and my role as their MP.

Quite clearly, for a decision as fundamental as building rental units in front of constituents’ blocks, it is not unreasonable to have a certain expectation of consultation.

Yet, such consultation is unlikely to result in a solution acceptable to all stakeholders; and if put to a vote, I am almost certain that the proposition would have been shot down faster than one could say, “Will you support the proposal?”

There is no doubt that blocks of rental flats are necessary in my ward. Confronted with the proposal, I knew I had to support it, despite it being an unpopular decision.

It would have been tempting for me to say “No”, but in my heart I knew that wouldn’t be right. It was a clear case of doing what is right as opposed to doing what is popular.

Doing what is right but not popular seems to be at odds with being an elected representative. That perhaps explains why democracy has tended towards doing what is popular with the people when what is right affects them adversely.  ( Note: Is it the same as increasing MP's salary  SKY HIGH ????  WHY not reduce  MP's pay to EARTH LOW ????   )

In Singapore’s case, the pockets of unhappiness over unpopular but right policies have been small and unlikely ( Note:  Taking  it for GRANTED ? ? ? ? ) to cause an upheaval at the ballot box. But what if an overwhelming majority has such sentiments?

So far, we’ve been fortunate in being able to do what is both right and popular. That perhaps explains why the People’s Action Party (PAP) has been able to stay in power since 1959. However, the same cannot be said for the future.

As Singapore progresses, a growing divergence ( Note:  Is this about the CONFLICT of INTERESTS ? ? ? ?of views, particularly between what is right and what is popular, is fairly certain.

Singaporeans will be more vocal and assertive of their wishes and will no doubt make their unhappiness clear when voting.

Consequently, the PAP will face growing pressure to take populist measures. It will be increasingly difficult for the party to have long-term but unpopular policies, such as on issues of resettlement and land acquisition.

It would be a sad day indeed for the PAP if it went down the populist path solely, as this party has always prided itself on doing what is right.

On the issue of the rental flats and my responsibility as an MP, I can reconcile the position by asserting that my duty as an elected representative goes beyond narrow local interests to doing what is in the wider interest of the community.

But what if there is a call by the country to go down the path of bad but popular policies?  I would say that we should stick by our principles ( NoTE:  WHAT  are  they ? ? ? ? ) and be prepared to do battle, even if it means becoming the opposition party in Parliament.

After all this is our country. If we are not prepared to do what is right for our own people, who will?eing a people’s representative in any democracy ( WHAT is the definition of DEMOCRAY ? ? ? ?  STepping STone JUST to get a very WELL PAID JOB ? ? ? ? ) can at times be a contradiction in terms.

COE is  Only  wOrth  S$1.00

SINGAPORE

Premiums for small and big cars fell by some $4,000 and $5,500 respectively, while the open category — whose COEs are often used for cars — saw a drop of nearly $6,000.

This was the biggest drop in premiums for most categories in about a year.

Motorcycles, however, saw a small premium increase of $32.

The turnaround did not surprise dealers like Kia Motors senior manager Chin Kee Min, who told MediaCorp: “We expected the market to correct itself because we thought that the last two bids were a little of an overreaction (to the cut in COE quotas).”

“In terms of sales, there was a huge drop, and that definitely affected the bids — most customers stayed away. Some are expecting a softening of the COE as well.”

Despite this correction, dealers do not expect customers to start rushing back to showrooms just yet — not until they are convinced that the higher premiums are here to stay.

Said Mr Chin: “Although premiums have dropped to a more rational level, some consumers are saying it is still $10,000 more than what it was in January.”

Prospective buyer Kelvin Wee said: “More than anything, people will have to get used to the idea of the new levels. We won’t go and buy a car just because it is $5,000 cheaper now.”

Motor traders expect COE prices to continue to fluctuate by a few thousand dollars over the next few rounds of bidding, and to eventually hover in the range of $30,000 to $40,000.

— After two rounds of fierce bidding that saw premiums in some car categories jump by over $10,000, are Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices finally turning the corner, as car buyers find the market too hot for their liking?
